Twenty Five things.
1. I like college, though, it was very similar to high school last semester.
2. Sometimes I wish I was someone else that is completely different than me.
3. When I'm alone I wish I wasn't, but when I'm not I wish I was.
4. I've given up on going to church.
5. Puppetry was my favorite activity at church.
6. I have four best friends in the whole world.
7. My best friends at college are both named Lauren.
8. There is only one person I trust completely... other than Jesus.
9. I finally completed a whole book for the first time in about three years: The Handmaid's Tale; it was weird.
10. I've been in love twice, but only one is true.
11. My grades last semester do not reflect how I wish to continue my college career.
12. I talk too much, as in I make small talk when it isn't necessary and if I were on the receiving end I would be annoyed.
13. I'm scared to death of commitment.
14. I like to make long term plans (i.e. what I'm going to do with my life), but hate making short term decisions (i.e. where to eat).
15. Procrastinate is the word that most aptly describes how I do things.
16. I met the love of my life on August 20th, 2008; which is my parents wedding anniversary.
17. Next semester I'm going to live off campus.
18. I'm a loner, but I don't like being alone.
19. I hold full conversations in my head and plan conversations that never happen.
20. Worrying occupies my mind much too often.
21. Heart-breaking was a pass time of mine in high school.
22. Four bands on my iPod I never listened to before I came to college: Iron & Wine, Sujan Stevens, The Shins, Bright Eyes.
23. There are 3237 songs on my iPod, yet I listen to about 200 max.
24. The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my favorite books, and I have read only three chapters of it.
25. Savannah is my favorite place in the whole world, two of my four best friends are there.

One finds what one wants, when one is not looking for it

I'm pretty sure I have an overactive mind.
Especially when I'm trying to fall asleep, or when I know I need to speak with someone about something.
And the title of this post is basically what I came up with to tell a certain someone. Mainly because it was how I found what I was looking for. Thus, I hope that it will work for said person. Now, the real challenge is going to how to tell them. Which is the other part I was mulling over in the wee hours of the morning before sleep overtook me....

On another note, I need to post more. I most likely will when I get to college. Therefore, keep an eye out for more.

New Begining.

So, I'm really much of a writer, but I've decided that I should bolg some to keep people updated with the goings on of my life.
And, at the moment I have an ungodly amount of free time on my hands. Plus, Christen just got a blog, so I have more reason to update mine, spill some thoughts, comment on my latest reading, or suggest things.

As soon as I get my laptop up and running, I'll probably post more often because I won't have to worry about the parental units hovering over my sholder, or walking over at awkward times. And I'll most likely revamp the layout while I'm at it. It needs some tending after.

Thus, look forward to reading me in the near future!

Mulling over things

So, it's pretty much been a while since my last post, so long that I that I was worried I had forgotten my password, but thankfully, Firefox has it saved.
I've been thinking about the future and where it will take me, mostly what college and grad school. Although, I haven't changed my mind on what I want to be when I grow up, I have changed how I'm going to get there. Reconsidering my top choices for my bachelor degree. I still haven't made any definite plans yet, I surmise I'll change my mind again if I were to do so.
Nonetheless, there have been other things on my mind as well. Most of my friends have gone off to college themselves. I feel somewhat left behind and left out. But I know God has a good and perfect plan for all of it, even though it doesn't seem like it.
I must say that parting is sweet sparrow. I am happy for my friends as they broaden their horizons and such.
Yet, one friend in particular, it makes me sad that he's not around. I find my self think about him too often and it sometimes make me uneasy.
Am lusting? Desiring too much to be near him? Is the way I feel about him sinful?
I honestly don't know.
This feeling could just be teenage hormones or perhaps ridiculous emotions. I've felt it before. It's like an insatiable yearning for something I cannot have (not to say it's forbidden, rather unreachable or not meant to be).
Everything seems to remind me of him, whether or not it has anything to do with him.
I suppose the Economic term "scarcity increases demand" is quite true in this situation. Ironic isn't it, that I want to be an Economist?

Let's Go Outback....

Have you ever been listening to the radio or watching TV and an Outback commercial comes on? Well, they have a really catchy ditty. If you've ever heard it you know what I mean. Nonetheless, the lyrics are "Let's go Outback tonight, life will still be there tomorrow," which got me thinking, will life still be there tomorrow? Who knows? I certainly do not. But, God does.
Lately I've been stressed out about my future (i.e finishing high school, going to/ graduating college, my career, etc). Also, since it's a new year, naturally I began to think of how I could start things anew or change the way I do things. Then I heard the Outback ditty and realized that I don't need to worry about all that stuff, because it's in the future. This not to say that I should be lazy and not prepare today for what's ahead, But to cast my cares at the foot of the cross and trust that God has a perfect plan for my life. Thus, so long as I follow Him today, HE will lead me into tomorrow.

It's about time...

Mmm, it's pretty much been forever since my last post. So, at the prompting of my dear friend Carmen and the availability of time, I have decided to type one.
Earlier in the day, while I was laying in bed awaiting sleep to overtake me, to be precise, I pondered what in this world I would post about. But, alas, as I knew would happen, I have forgotten all of that which I had recited in my head. Unfortunately this is the case when I try to write. I can think of everything that would want to say, yet when it comes time to type it I forget it. This is one of the main reasons as to why I haven't posted in a long time. Another one is that I now attend public school. Thus, the majority of my time is taken up by my four ninety minute classes and forty five minute lunch five days of the week. If my time not be taken up by school, it is taken by home work, work, church and trying to keep my sanity by hanging out with my friends.

I need to write more......sigh. Or, rather, better time management skills.
Perhaps I shall post more frequently during Christmas break.....

Nancy Hoover 1988-2070

Nancy was always fun to be around. Every time she would enter a room the atmosphere would suddenly change. As the sun does after the rain, so would God’s light shine through the clouds of any situation. Her smile would always instantly change your mood. Her laughter was contagious. She never did like talking about her self. After a puppet program or band concert she never like getting escalades. She would humbly reply “I wasn’t me up there, it was God. If it was me it would have been terrible”.
Nancy’s goal in life was to live out the great commission, especially to “go into all the world”. And that is what she did. She started going to foreign missions when she was fourteen, to Padilla, Mexico. She and her best friend often went on short term missions until they both had graduated college. Nancy graduated from Toccoa Falls College where she majored Counseling Psychology and minored in youth ministry. She also attended Augusta State and graduated with a masters in nursing assistance. She and Carmen served twenty years together in Peru. They ministered to the people there by repairing cleft lip and other physical medical deformities. Not only did she and Carmen help the people with physical needs, they also shared the love of God with them. With God’s help they were able to successfully operate on two hundred people. Though, to their knowledge only seventy people came to know the Lord. The church they started continued to grow and flourish. Today the attendance on Sunday mornings is one thousand people.

About The Political Compass™

In the introduction, we explained the inadequacies of the traditional left-right line.

If we recognise that this is essentially an economic line it's fine, as far as it goes. We can show, for example, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung and Pol Pot, with their commitment to a totally controlled economy, on the hard left. Socialists like Mahatma Gandhi and Robert Mugabe would occupy a less extreme leftist position. Margaret Thatcher would be well over to the right, but further right still would be someone like that ultimate free marketeer, General Pinochet.

That deals with economics, but the social dimension is also important in politics. That's the one that the mere left-right scale doesn't adequately address. So we've added one, ranging in positions from extreme authoritarian to extreme libertarian.

Both an economic dimension and a social dimension are important factors for a proper political analysis. By adding the social dimension you can show that Stalin was an authoritarian leftist (ie the state is more important than the individual) and that Gandhi, believing in the supreme value of each individual, is a liberal leftist. While the former involves state-imposed arbitary collectivism in the extreme top left, on the extreme bottom left is voluntary collectivism at regional level, with no state involved. Hundreds of such anarchist communities exisited in Spain during the civil war period

You can also put Pinochet, who was prepared to sanction mass killing for the sake of the free market, on the far right as well as in a hardcore authoritarian position. On the non-socialist side you can distinguish someone like Milton Friedman, who is anti-state for fiscal rather than social reasons, from Hitler, who wanted to make the state stronger, even if he wiped out half of humanity in the process.

The chart also makes clear that, despite popular perceptions, the opposite of fascism is not communism but anarchism (ie liberal socialism), and that the opposite of communism ( i.e. an entirely state-planned economy) is neo-liberalism (i.e. extreme deregulated economy).

The usual understanding of anarchism as a left wing ideology does not take into account the neo-liberal "anarchism" championed by the likes of Ayn Rand, Milton Friedman and America's Libertarian Party, which couples law of the jungle right-wing economics with liberal positions on most social issues. Often their libertarian impulses stop short of opposition to strong law and order positions, and are more economic in substance (ie no taxes) so they are not as extremely libertarian as they are extremely right wing. On the other hand, the classical libertarian collectivism of anarcho-syndicalism ( libertarian socialism) belongs in the bottom left hand corner.

In our home page we demolished the myth that authoritarianism is necessarily "right wing", with the examples of Robert Mugabe, Pol Pot and Stalin. Similarly Hitler, on an economic scale, was not an extreme right-winger. His economic policies were broadly Keynesian, and to the left of some of today's Labour parties. If you could get Hitler and Stalin to sit down together and avoid economics, the two diehard authoritarians would find plenty of common ground.

Ah, accomplishment. It's a good feeling to know you have gotten something productive done. Today I emptied the last of the boxes in my room, four of them to be exact. I hadn't had much time since we moved in in July. I came home from North Carolina and the next day we packed up and moved, three day's later I was on a fifteen passenger van headed south of the boarder. The week s following consisted of church, work, more church, praise band, commuting between Garden City and Savannah, trying to keep some kind of socail life and co-op. And after two months I can now offically say, "I'm moved in" and just in time for my birthday party which is this Saturday evening.
Mmm, I can't wait to see how many people dress up and who they dress up as! Ah! My party is a Superhero costume party, in case you were wondering...

Predestination

Predestination, this topic has been the center of controversy for protestant demonstrations for centuries. One of the verses that predestination is based off of is Romans eight twenty nine which states "for whom He foreknew, He also predestined..." Yes, God knows who will and who will not enter heaven. Predestination in the context of God choosing who will enter heaven nullifies the Great Commission and other scripture such as, "God is willing that NONE should perish, but that ALL should have eternal life". Why would God tell us (Christians) to ..."go into all the world and preach the good news..." if He had already chosen who will be saved? God made us in His image, thus we have a free will to make our own choices. What would be the point in saying that you do not want to people to die and then going ahead and choosing who would not? There is no point in it. God cannot contradict Himself, and the Bible is the inspiration of God through different authors at different times.
This is my opinion on predestination, believe what you will. But do not take my word for it, research it for yourself, pray about it and find what God leads you to believe.
It is not for me to decide your convictions.

Have I gaurded my heart too well?

I thought the day would never come. A day when I would be so sought after. I thought it would be a good thing, but I've come to find out it hurts. Knowing that someone loves you, yet you can't find it in yourself to love them back in that way, though something is drawing, pulling, alluring you to them. This feeling is strange, one I've never felt before, has consumed my thoughts and my emotions. It perplexes me beyond mesure. Is this a test, to see if I can still keep a promise I made and have broken once before? Or is it truely God's plan for me and I'm being self righteous by denying this one who feels so strongly for me? Am I going to miss out on God's blesings if I say no? But what if I say yes? Will I have the physical temptations I fear I would have if I say yes? Will he be stong enough to resist, will I? Is he the one I've been waiting for, or am I hoping in vain? I have so may questions, I am confused and lost, some one tell me the answers, help me understand and find me, please.
